It is worth the stop if you like good quality, genuine military surplus. Heck, its worth the visit just to see the stuff on the walls!
The U.S. Forestry service provides several live views of areas in the mountains via webcams. The Cold Mountain webcam is located somewhere near Hwy 276 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Click on the link at the left to view the cam and check out the other webcam links on that page.
